What can we learn from Heath Ledger?

I have a secret confession to make . . . okay, it's not all THAT secret, but here it goes: I LOVE YOUNG PEOPLE!

When I was in middle school, I looked up to my youth minister and decided at a young age that I wanted to become a youth minister. Since then, despite my current line of ministry, I have still had a love and special place in my heart for young people. Most of the young people are at the age had they been my own.

Today, I have good friends who are both in their early and late twenties. My heart goes out toward them as they enter the adult world, for many, on their own for the first time in their lives. I cannot help but wonder what values our young people have been taught.

In light of the recent death of 28-year-old actor, Heath Ledger, while the cause of his untimely death has yet to be determined at the writing of this blog, I cannot help but wonder, "What were his values? Did he have a belief in God or a relationship with Him? Why or how could he have overdosed? Was it accidental or intentional? With so much 'success' going for him, did he give up?" While I enjoyed watching his performance in "The Patriot" (I haven't seen any of his other performances), I wonder what his life values were. As Mel Gibson has stated, Heath was at the beginning of possibly a very promising acting career.

What can we learn from Heath Ledger's death today?
