During a phone conversation with a friend of mine yesterday, I began to realize a few things which made his life different from mine.
I have known C___ for over ten years when he was a teen in a church I was attending. C___ struggled a lot with different temptations and for a while fought against giving into sin. After I left the church, I lost contact with C___ until about a month ago. Over the next few weeks, I learned that he continued giving into sin, had gone through several painful relationships, and was currently in a long-term relationship.
Like C___, I too had struggled with temptation and sin struggles from my teen years up through adulthood and many times, had given into sin. Each time, I knew and acknowledged that what I had done was wrong, repented and continued to fight at the temptation level (and many times failing miserably!). But God always gave me the strength to get back up with each fall.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (ESV).
As fallen Man, we will always be faced with temptations and sin struggles. However, with Christ and our brothers and sisters constantly encouraging us, we can only persevere to win “the race…set before us” (Hebrews 12.1, ESV).
