Busyness in Business

I recently spoke with one of my brothers who I had met last year. In a conversation regarding his relationship with the members of the Home Group he leads, he made the comment that they only communicate once a week (at their meeting), as they are so busy that it proves difficult to do so otherwise.

When I first began attending my own Home Group, I saw and heard similar scenarios where many in our group were either late or absent due to their busyness (or is that business?).

Have we allowed society to convince us that our success (however you wish to define it) is dependent upon our busyness or long hours in the office? Or is it our own pride which drives us?

It is sad to think that we have Home Groups which are comprised of Christians who are (or seem) so busy that they are unable (or unwilling) to communicate encouragement (1 Thessalonians 5:11) to and with each other. It is vitally important that we as Christians communicate love and support to build up the Body of Christ.

This may also be one of the reasons why so many feel the need to join “just another group of seemingly too busy people”. People are thirsty for real and meaningful relationships, not just more empty, unfulfilling ones. While yes, I know and realize that there will be times in which our jobs will require us to occasionally clock more hours, but let’s make sure that our jobs do not become our master and thus result in our missing golden opportunities to encourage each other.
