Should Christians Model?

In a recent conversation I had with a fellow believer, the topic of modeling arose. My friend queried whether it was appropriate for Christians to model. Initially, we discussed modesty versus immodest attire to model, then discussed briefly [no pun intended](as it was close to eleven p.m. when we started this discussion!) what type of witness and impact the images would have on youth, their parents, elders and future ministry opportunities.

As I drove from work to my favorite Starbucks the following day, Psalm 139.14 came to mind: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well (ESV).” Such questions arose: Should God’s reflection (our being created in the image of God, as described in Genesis 1.27) be photographed for personal gain or profit, as opposed to using God-given intelligence to learn a trade and profit from that instead?
